My Story
Lieutenant Colonel (RET) Robert W. Martin was commissioned an Armor Officer upon graduation from Army ROTC at Penn State University in May 1993. His first duty assignment was with the 2nd Squadron 3rd Armor Cavalry Regiment, Fort Bliss, Texas served as a Tank Platoon Leader in Eagle Troop and a Scout Platoon leader in Grim Troop.
In 1995 he was assigned overseas to serve as the Executive Officer for Charlie Company and the Headquarters and Headquarters Company (HHC) 1st Tank Battalion, 72nd Tank Regiment, 2nd Infantry, Camp Casey, Korea.
After completing the Armor Captain Career Course in 1997, he was assigned to the 2nd Battalion 67th Armor Regiment, 2nd Brigade, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Hood, Texas, as an Assistant Operations Officer and Gunnery Officer. He then served as Alpha Company Commander and the 2nd Brigade Reconnaissance Troop Commander of G Troop, 10th Cavalry Regiment.
In 2000 he attended the Army Human Resource Management Course, earning a certification in human resource management. After completion of the course, he was assigned to the 2nd Brigade, 87th Division 1st Army as the Brigade Adjutant.
In 2001 he transferred from the Regular Army to the Army Reserves, remaining in the 2nd Brigade, 87th Division as the Brigade Training Officer. After attending the CGSC and the Multi-function Logistical Officer Course, he was re-branched as a Logistical Officer and served as the Brigade Logistical Officer and SPO.
In 2010 he volunteered to deploy with the 143d Expeditionary Sustainment Command as the Lead Plans Officer. After returning, he was assigned to the 158th Infantry Brigade Camp Shelby, Mississippi as the Plans Officer, then served as the Brigade Operations Officer.
In 2012 he again volunteered to deploy as an advisor with a 15-man team to Afghanistan as a Security Force Assistance Team Leader (SFAT) with the 3rd Brigade 2nd Infantry Division in Zabul Providence. He remained in Afghanistan to serve as the G3 Operations Officer for the 311th Expeditionary Sustainment Command (ESC), on Kandahar Airfield. After this assignment, he was personally selected to lead the Joint and Coalition strategic planning effort and start the execution for the retrograde and redeployment of U.S. and NATO forces and equipment on Kandahar Airfield.
In 2014 he was assigned to Fort Leavenworth to serve as the Operations Officer for the School for Command Preparation, the Army’s senior-level leadership preparation school.
In 2016 LTC Martin retired from the Army after 24 years of service.

Lieutenant Colonel (RET) Martin’s civilian education includes a Bachelor of Science in Education from Penn State University, a Master in Military History from the American Military University, and He is currently attending the University of Phoenix to complete his doctorate in educational leadership with an estimated completion date of May 2023.

His military education includes Armor Basic and Advance Course, the Scout Platoon Leaders Course, Combined Arms Service, and Staff School, Command and General Staff College, Transportation Officer Transition Course, and Multi-Function Logistical Officer Course.

His military awards include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star (1 OLC), Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (3 OLC), Army Commendation Medal (2 OLC), Army Achievement Medal (4 OLC), Afghanistan Campaign Medal (3 Battle Stars). He has earned Airborne and Air Assault wings.
Lieutenant Colonel (RET) Martin is married to the former Maryann Marcantonio. They have two boys, Matthew and Mikey.
